WELCOME TO THE PROVIDENCE TRAVEL TEAM

The Providence / Pawtucket Travel Team seeks to teach youth leadership, sportsmanship while keeping them active and healthy through the sport of basketball.

Additionally, The Providence /Pawtucket Travel Team provides youth exposure to different towns and cities all over Rhode Island while having a great time experiencing healthy competition with friends!

The program was founded by Lanre Ajakaiye, Executive Director in 2019 to give the city youth a platform, ensure state participation and blend sports with life skills and education.  In 2020, the first 5th to 8th Graders experienced and were introduced to the importance of Financial Literacy and immersed in Career Awareness which is part of the program.  This was taught by community leaders and professionals including:  Shomari Husband of Husband Associates, CPA and Marcy Reyes of the Financial Literacy Youth Initiative (FLYi initiative) with sponsorship by BankRI.  In 2020, all four teams qualified for the semi finals in 1st to 3rd place across state rankings. Three of the teams made it to the state championships with 5th and 8th grade teams winning the first state championships for Providence in the RIYBA league ever after 25+ years of league formation.  Go to photos and videos to see.
